Collecting and Disposing of Sharps Safely and Responsibly
Needles, syringes, lancets, auto-injectors, and other medical devices with sharp points or edges that can puncture the skin are called “sharps.” Used sharps should be disposed of safely and responsibly to prevent harm or the spread of disease. They should be immediately placed into a sharps disposal container and thrown out separately from household trash. Collection programs for sharps are available in many locations throughout the country.
